Early Life and Education:
Amaarae was born as Ama Serwah Genfi on 4th July 1994 in New York City, USA. She was born to Ghanaian parents and spent her early childhood in New York before moving to Ghana with her family. She attended Labone Senior High School in Accra before moving back to the United States for college. Amaarae studied at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in Political Science and Fine Arts.

I cannot talk about Amaarae Biography and not talk about he career. Amaarae began her career as a singer and songwriter at the tender age of 13. Her career started at the age of seventeen when she interned at a recording studio.
Amaarae announced her entrance into the music industry with the release of her debut EP “Passionfruit Summers” in November 2017.
In 2020 on November 12th, “The Angel You Don’t Know,” Amaarae’s first studio album, was released.
Amaarae’s debut album, Passionfruit Summers, was released on November 30, 2017 via her own independent record company, Golden Child LLC. In April 2018, she was selected one of Apple Music Africa’s Favorite New Artists, and later that year, she became an Apple Music Beats 1 featured artist.
She shared the stage with Teni, Boj of DRB LasGidi, and Odunsi in November 2018 at the Nigerian art fair ART X Lagos.
Amaarae’s fashion sense has also garnered praise. She was designated one of Vogue’s Top 100 Style Influencers of 2018 and was included in an online piece on four women sporting buzz haircuts from around the world.
On March 23, 2019, the first Boiler Room concert took place in Accra, and among the performers were Amaarae, La Meme Gang (Nxwrth, RJZ, KwakuBS, Darkovibes, Kiddblack, and $pacely), and rapper Kwesi Arthur.
Stonebwoy, Kojey Radical, M3NSA, Santi, Blaqbonez, Buju, Odunsi, and B4bonah are just few of the artists with whom Amaarae has collaborated since then.
The Ghanaian diva also lived up to expectations with her 2019 duet with Wande Coal, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, on the song Spend Some Time.
On November 12, 2020, Amaarae released her first proper studio album, titled The Angel You Don’t Know. This album “crackles with creativity, a pacesetter at a time when industry bigwigs are catching up to the long-held truth that Africa is setting the worldwide tempo for pop music,” as Owen Myers of Pitchfork put it.
In May 2022, while Kendrick Lamar was touring Ghana, Amaarae, Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, and Smallgod caught up with him in Accra for a private album listening party to celebrate the release of Mr. Morales & The Big Steppers.
Personal Life:
Amaarae is known to be a very private person, and not much is known about her personal life. However, in an interview with OkayAfrica, she revealed that she identifies as queer and that her music is a reflection of her experiences as a queer woman. She also spoke about the challenges of being an independent artist and the importance of mental health.
