Jeffrey Glen Daniel was born on August 24, 1955, in Los Angeles, California. He began dancing at a young age and joined the dance troupe The Lockers in the early 1970s. The Lockers were one of the first street dance groups to gain mainstream popularity, and they helped to introduce new dance moves like the moonwalk and the backslide to the world.
Daniel attended Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the drill team and the track team. He also studied dance at the Los Angeles Dance Academy.
