Early Life:
Prof. Simeon Bamire, a native of Oyan in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria, was born in 1959. He started off at Datus Nursery/Primary Preparatory School in Accra, Ghana, and finished up his primary schooling at St. Clares’ Nursery and Primary School in Osogbo. From 1972 until 1976, he studied at St. Charles’ Grammar School, Osogbo.
Education:
Professor Bamire earned a B.A. in agriculture from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) in 1985 after studying in agricultural economics. This is where he earned his Master of Philosophy in 1992 and his Doctor of Philosophy in 1999. In 1997, he received funding from the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) for his PhD program, and in 1998, he received funding from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). He was awarded the “National Universities Postgraduate Theses Award” for his PhD thesis back in 2001.

Prof. Bamire began his academic career in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Faculty of Agriculture at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, where he was promoted to Professor in 2008. Simeon Bamire has experience instructing college and graduate students, having supervised theses and projects at the Master’s and Doctoral levels for students both inside and outside of Nigeria.
He has also been an External Examiner at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, both within and outside of the country, and has evaluated his colleagues for promotion to the Professorial cadre. He has delivered the University’s 315th Inaugural Lecture and has over a hundred research-based publications in prestigious local and worldwide outlets, including books, scientific journals, refereed conference proceedings, technical reports, monographs, and more.
Prof Bamire is a Senior Research Associate at the International Center for Evaluation and Development and a Fellow of CODESRIA, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and the Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) (ICED).
He is a member of many different organizations in his field and has been to many conferences, both in and out of Nigeria. There have been several recognitions and accolades conferred on him.

Prof. Bamire was a Former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife and a scientist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, he also served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture in 2007–2008 and 2008–2009, as well as Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics in 2010–2011.
