Bouqui, often known as B.O.U.Q.U.I, is the stage name of Bukola Folayan (born 18th February 1979). She is a rapper, singer, songwriter, on-air personality, fashion designer, and novelist who was born in Nigeria. She received nomination for Revelation of the Year and Best Rap Album at The Headies 2007 for her debut album, BOUQUI, which also won her the Best Female Act Award at the 2007 Award for Music Excellence in Nigeria (AMEN). At the 2010 Nigerian Music Video Awards, her video for the song Take You Away won the Best Mainstream Video prize (NMVA).

Early Life and Education:
She was raised in an academic environment at the Obafemi Awolowo University (Ile-Ife), together with her other five siblings, and this had a significant impact on her rich lyrical style and global perspective. Her parents were professors of biochemistry. However, the development of the Bouqui brand was influenced by her profound Christian faith and adherence to God’s revelation in the Holy Bible. Before going solo and shifting her focus and style to fit urban contemporary Nigeria, Bouqui began her professional career with an all-girl group called G-Vibes many years ago. She still delivers when it comes to message and passion today.
In 1999, she launched a solo career under the stage name Bouqui, which stands for “Born Again Into A Quickened And Unparalleled Image.” With the release of the singles Molejo, Vanity, and Get it Started from her debut album, B.O.U.Q.U.I, in 2007, which appeared on charts in the United Kingdom, she became well-known. Get it Started was the first song by a Nigerian-based artist to debut at number one on the backyard beats segment of the World Chart Show, hosted by PJ Butta.
BOUQUI departed for the U.K last year, but she had just returned from the U.K. TOUR, where she performed the first single, MO RI LE, off the sophomore album, titled REDEFINITION, in 15 locations throughout the United Kingdom. Seventeen (17) tracks make up REDEFINITION. The tracks were combined and polished in the UK. The record label, BOUQUIS PLACE ENTERTAINMENT, was formally founded on the same day as the premiere of the music video for the lead single, MO RI LE, which was filmed and edited in the U.K. On 18th February, 2009, Bouqui’s birthday, the OFFICIAL BOUQUI WEBSITE and the CD REDEFINITION were both released.
After releasing the new music videos for her second and third singles from the redefined album, TAKE YOU AWAY, which were filmed in the United Kingdom and OLUWA, which was filmed in Chicago, BOUQUI just finished her tour of the United States of America. Since August 2009, she has been on tour, stopping in several locations throughout 15 states, including California, Dallas, and others. In the ensuing year, she visited five Canadian provinces. Recently, she started “the Redefinition campus storm,” in which she toured the universities with a few of her friends. Babcock wasn’t left out either, with 8000 attendees, and uni lag had approximately 6000 people as well. OAU Ife saw the first edition, where over 15000 people turned up. By visiting the correctional facility for women and children in December of last year, they chose to give back to society.

- The United States consecrated Bouqui as a Reverend in March 2019. She is currently the youth pastor at Victory Christian Fellowship in Delaware.
- Bouqui started airing an Instagram Live show called Bouqui’s Place in 2020, during the COVID-19 shutdown, where she has interviewed major Nigerian celebrities including MI Abaga, Waje, Stella Damasus, Ruggedman, and more.
- In April 2022, Bouqui released her debut novel, My Naked Parts.
- In May 2022, she received her Ph.D in Marketing, Advertising, and Faith-based Initiative from HBI University in Connecticut, making her the first renowned African rapper to earn a doctoral degree in academia.
